Open & Affirming
Reflecting our commitments to justice and inclusion, in June 1993 our congregation voted to become Open and Affirming, the official designation in the United Church of Christ for churches that welcome, affirm, and advocate for the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons. Our Open and Affirming statement expands this welcome to the full diversity of God’s people.
Our statement reads:
“We are called to love our siblings as God loves us, freely and without reservation. Our unconditional love is inclusive of all God’s people. We denounce acts of discrimination and violence against any person. We celebrate the family in all its diverse forms, and affirm all loving and committed relationships. We welcome all people into our community of faith, whatever age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, racial or ethnic identity, immigration status socio-economic status, or physical or mental abilities. Each person is invited and encouraged to participate in all aspects of our church’s life and ministry.”
