Creation Justice Covenant
Lake Oswego United Church of Christ

As an Earthwise congregation since 2010, we have already committed to the following: to meet or exceed meaningful targets for reducing global warming and other forms of pollution, to establish an Earthwise Congregation Committee (the Earth Justice Team), to urge governments and businesses to respond to global warming, and to act as a voice of hope in the climate crisis. We have been certified as a Clackamas County Leader in Sustainability since 2021 at the gold (highest) level and commit to continuing and expanding the activities that led to that designation.

As a Creation Justice congregation, we additionally commit to reaching out to care for all of God’s creation—all of our natural environment and all of its inhabitants. We have been actively working, as a congregation and with local partners, to restore the land on which we sit to a more native condition; this includes removing invasive plants in favor of native plants and restoring the small creek to a free-flowing natural state. Beyond our immediate environment, we commit to learn about and work to correct situations in which human abuses have caused imbalance and injustice in the harmony of God’s creation. We commit to raising awareness and promoting solutions for these abuses, particularly issues that have long-term impacts on future generations or those related to factors such as race, class, and global inequality.
